The Atlanta Independent School District Board of Trustees hosted a banquet at the Atlanta Middle School gymnasium Thursday, June 5, to honor AISD employees and bid farewell to retirees.
Board President Joel Steger welcomed the crowd of 400 plus and related something he read online, “Most employees want to be appreciated and to have that appreciation verbalized.” To that end, last year the AISD trustees began a tradition in order to reward long-time service to the district.
He thanked the maintenance staff at AISD, Ben Rice and his staff, Donna Rice and the Atlanta Education Foundation (AEF) for all their work to stage the splendid event.

Elijah Tindall bringing shock factor to ‘Another Level’

You may think tattoos and Christianity don’t mix or that anyone who looks like a rocker could influence young people in a positive direction, but Elijah Tindall could be the guy to prove you wrong.
His story leads from Dallas to the gang-infested streets of Los Angeles, Calif., to a tent hot enough to remind a person of a certain place down under and eventually to radio, youth ministry, the comedy stage and even network television.  And for a few dates this summer, Tindall’s story will lead him here to Queen City.
Tindall is the guest speaker at The Next Level summer camp, which begins Monday at Christian Fellowship. Tindall will share/perform Father’s Day morning, Sunday, June 15 at Christian Fellowship Church (CFC) and the following two Mondays, June 16 and June 23 at the same location during The Next Level youth camp.

Proposed EPA carbon standards may have positive impact on Texas

Environmental leaders in Texas say the proposed rule on carbon missions announced this week by the Environmental Protection Agency will bring positive impacts to the Lone Star State.
The goal of the rule is to clean up carbon pollution from primarily coal-burning power plants, said Janice Bezanson, executive director of the Texas Conversation Alliance.
“The EPA rule is especially important in Texas,” she said. “Scientists are becoming increasingly convinced that our recent droughts are due to climate change. If that’s true, we’re going to need to be actively reversing the effects of climate change.”
The EPA says power plants emit about one-third of carbon emissions in the United States related to climate change, and the rule aims to reduce that total by one-third. The agency is taking comments on the proposal for the next four months.
