Miranda Johnson of the Atlanta Area Chamber of Commerce and Becky Wilbanks, Cass County judge-elect, are meeting with different entities including cities and schools in the county to promote interest in the event. “The ones we have spoken to are supportive of it,” Johnson said.

Library wins grant, gets new computers

By Jim Bryan
Special to the Journal

Tragedy recently befell the fax machine at the Atlanta Public Library. When one of the employees went to operate it, the scanning bed cover broke completely off of the ancient machine. For a time--in splendid East Texas fashion--the cover was held in place with duct tape.
Library Director Jackie Icenhower placed calls to vendors in order to get a new professional grade all-in-one fax/scanner/copier to replace the old one, but was informed that the cost would be $3,000 for the hardware, software, and installation. There was simply no money in the library’s budget for that level of expenditure, so she went online and searched for a grant.
