City of Atlanta general election set for May 7

By Robin Aaron Hall

The City of Atlanta has set a general election for May 7.
On the ballot for the city is the Mayoral seat currently occupied by Keith Crow and the District 1 At Large Council chair currently filled by Councilman Chris Collins.
This election may be more expensive than usual due to the fact that the Cass County Clerk’s Office has said no to allowing the city to use their voting machines this go round, forcing the city to look to outside sources.
The added expense is expected to be about $15,000.
The reasoning behind the County Clerk’s refusal is that the city race may conflict with a potential runoff stemming from the Primary Election being held March 1.

Never too late for pie

QCHS held a Pie in the Face fundraiser benefitting the Susan G. Komen Foundation Race for the Cure back in October.
The information just came back as the school was able to connect with the Representative from Race for the Cure to award her the check for the funds they raised and get a photo.
The amount of $193 was raised by the Pie in the Face contest.
Volunteers and recipients of the strawberry pudding with cool whip pies were Coach Justin Burk (QCHS Athletic Director), Mr. Billy Vess (QCHS Band Director), Coach Tommy Kimble (MUMS Coach), and Mrs. Kim Madlock (MUMS Band Director). Students purchased tickets during their lunch for a chance to be the lucky winner and award one of the volunteers with a Pie in the Face.

City delays change to animal ordinance

By Bobby Horn Jr.

Sun Editor

LINDEN—Linden City Council postponed a request to amend Animal Ordinance 95-1 and 06-14, which would have limited the number of dogs and cats which residents may keep as pets, as well as creating stricter kennel regulations.

Alderman Kenny Hamilton, in making the motion to ‘table’ the issue, said that the council needed time to study the matter before moving forward.

Gary Stevens presented the amendment to council. In his request, he asked that pet owners be restricted to no more than six dogs and cats. Stevens said that in drafting the proposal he contacted several local cities see what ordinances they had in place. By way of example, he said that Hughes Springs sets a limit at four animals.

“I would prefer four, but I think six is a good compromise,” Stevens said.
