There was a large crowd of well-wishers in attendance at a reception held on June 3 in Roger Hailey’s honor at the Atlanta Administration building.
After more than 40 years in education Atlanta Independent School District Superintendent Roger Hailey retired this week. He told employees it has been an honor to work for them.
“If you enjoy what you’re doing you don’t have to work a day in your life,” Hailey said. “The majority of my career I could always say that. I have never had to work. It’s not the buildings, it’s not the pay, it’s not the locations. It is the people that you work with day in and day out. That is what makes a job where it is enjoyable.”
“It has not been a job it has been a pleasure,” Hailey said of his years working at AISD. “Thank you for the last 10 years. It has been a wonderful experience for me.”
Hailey believes Sidney Harrist, who will take over as superintendent, is ready and that Harrist, along with the council of an outstanding board of trustees, will do a wonderful job as the new chief administrator of AISD.
