Ferrellgas collects items for winter coat drive

Ferrellgas is collecting new and gently used costs, hats, scarves, and gloves this year and putting them into the hands of less fortunate members of our community. Donations can be given to Ferrellgas deliverymen or brought to the Ferrellgas office at 8620 Highway 59 N in Atlanta through Dec. 30. At the end of the coat drive, Ferrellgas will donate items collected to one or more local charities.
“Ferrellgas is proud to provide a product that helps keep people in our community warm and provides some comfort in their lives,” says Kirt Brasseaux, Ferrellgas’ local director of operations. “But we realize that too many local residents will struggle to stay warm this winter because they don’t have an adequate coat. Our goal is to help provide one to as many people here as possible. Thanks to the generous members of our community, we look forward to doing just that.”
Brasseaux said residents do not have to be customers of Ferrellgas to participate in the coat drive.

The firearms range in value from $210 for the Escort Home Defense Black to the grand prize, a Henry Golden Boy Deluxe, valued at $1,925.
She said that the raffle will generate $5,000 for departments at Queen City, McLeod, Linden-Kildare, Bloomburg and Hughes Springs ISDs.

School Wide Enrichment Model implemented at Atlanta Primary School

Atlanta Primary School has partnered with the University of Connecticut to implement the School Wide Enrichment Model (SEM) for all primary school students.
An APS Leadership Team has been established and trained in the foundations of the SEM model at the university this past summer.  This team worked to develop the structure and practices of SEM that are custom tailored to capitalize on the unique talents of both faculty and students at APS.
According to Principal Donna Rice, “The major goal of the SEM is the application of gifted education pedagogy to total school improvement. The SEM provides enriched learning experiences and higher learning standards for all children through three goals; developing talents in all children, providing a broad range of advanced-level enrichment experiences for all students, and providing advanced follow-up opportunities for students based on their strengths and interests.
