60 years of bliss

Rodney and Bea Holton will celebrate 60 years of married bliss on Saturday, July 27.
They met at Florence Hill Elementary School and have been sweethearts ever since. However, they didn’t start dating until Bea was in the eighth grade and Rodney was in the 10th.
One Sunday morning in July of 1953 as they went to church, plans seemed to change or maybe not, as Bea had gone to her classroom, Rodney passed by the room and motioned for Bea to come out.
That Sunday morning was the beginning of a wonderful friendship which developed into a beautiful love affair. They headed for the bus station with plans to go to San Diego, Calif., to get married.
Somehow, on the bus ride to California they decided to stop off in Gila Bend, Ariz., and tie the knot, which they did before they would continue their trip to San Diego where Rodney had family.
In 1956, Rodney joined the U. S. Marine Corps where he spent the next two years in the infantry.
After his two-year tour, they moved back to Grand Prairie where Rodney went to work for the General Motors Assembly Plant where he worked for 30 years.
Rodney and Bea both graduated from high school with GED diplomas.
Rodney attended Arlington State College for about one year, taking a course in electrical engineering. Bea worked for a while at an air craft company in the Dallas-Grand Prairie area.
They have four children - two boys, Randy and Ray who are twins, and two girls, Rhonda and Chellie.
Rhonda O’Meilia, the oldest, is a nurse. Randy Holton is a police officer in Grand Prairie. Ray Holton is a U. S. Marshall for Homeland Security and Chellie Cox is a school teacher at an Amarillo elementary school.
Rodney and Bea made their home on Club Lake Road and enjoy living in Linden where family and friends come to visit often.
