M.U.M.S. team completes undefeated season

The Morris Upchurch Middle School Math and Science Team hosted the Regional Math and Science competition March 4. The M.U.M.S. team won the first place overall trophy with a total of 2,820 points, second place Spring Hill had 2,812 points total and third place Daingerfield had a total of 2,487 points.
The M.U.M.S. team had 30 places in the top 5 of the event and six were first place.
Individual results are as follows: Number Sense: Austin McGee – second place, eighth grade; Aden Norton – second place, seventh grade; Seth Alexander – fourth place, seventh grade; Aidan Hamilton – first place, fifth grade; Mallori Stringer – second place, fifth grade; Zach Henry – third place, fifth grade and LaJavion Martin – fifth place, fifth grade.
Calculator: Mallory Abbitt – first place, eighth grade; Allyson Hamilton – fifth place, eighth grade; Clare Wong – first place, sixth grade;
Chauncett Miles – fourth place, sixth grade; Ebie Dotson – fifth place, sixth grade; Lilly Holley – first place, fifth grade; Kyra Campbell – second place, fifth place; Kynlee Butler – third place, fifth place and Samuel Weeks – fourth place, fifth grade.
General Math: Austin McGee – fifth place, eighth grade; Halle Worthington – fifth place, seventh grade; Aidan Hamilton – first place, fifth grade; Mallori Stringer – second place, fifth grade and Zach Henry – third place, fifth grade.
Science: Gabi Gonzales – third place, eighth grade; Colton Scoggins – second place, seventh grade; Annika Philippi – third place, seventh grade; Jacob Simpson – fourth place, seventh grade; Faith Mahon – second place, sixth grade; Brooklin Beers – first place, fifth grade; Jackson Dillinger – second place, fifth grade; Zach Henry – third place, fifth grade and Micah Whittington – fourth place, fifth grade.
Team coaches are Kendra Bates, Celeste Dellinger, Becky Russell and Principal Steve Holmes.
With the successful, undefeated season under its belt the M.U.M.S. Math and Science Team will have a chance to compete in April at the state level in San Antonio.
The M.U.M.S. students will compete against other 3A schools in the state in number sense, calculator, science and general math.
The team is represented by the following sixth graders: Ebie Dotson, Faith Mahon, Chauncett Miles and Clare Wong.
The team is also represented by the following seventh graders: Seth Alexander, Carson Dillinger, Parker Johnson, Connor McGee, Aden Norton, Annika Philippi, Colton Scoggins, Jacob Simpson, Chyna Stiger and Halle Worthington.
And the following eighth graders: Mallory Abbitt, Claire Bates, Tallen Boone, Hannah Fitts, Gabi Gonzalez, Allyson Hamilton, Sarah Henry, Austin McGee, Luke Niedens and Gracie Weeks.
