Baker honored for voluntarism

LINDEN-- On Dec. 15, the Linden Lions Club honored a life-long resident of Linden who has given of her time to make the community a better place. 
During their weekly meeting, the Lions Club presented Shirley Baker with their Heart of a Lion award.
A retired Family and Consumer Science teacher,  Baker currently works with Community Services of Northeast Texas-Head Start Disability / Mental Health Specialist.
Not limiting herself to one area, Baker has been involved with several groups over the years including  Community Healthcore- Board of Trustees, Cass County, Board Chair;  Family & Consumer Science Program Area Committee, 4H/FCS Coalition;  Former Linden Garden Club President for 10 years, serving as Past President with board officers;  Linden Area Chamber of Commerce Board and Linden Parks Board.
Baker said that she is  involved in many organizations because of her family. She has three sons:   Jay, Michael, and Will Baker and  three granddaughters, Mackenzie, Bailee and Kendall Baker.
“I’ve always felt the importance of being a volunteer,” Baker said.  “I feel if one is involved in an organization, one is there to do their part and share information with other groups. I had the opportunity to teach a Volunteer class while at LKCISD.  It was a wonderful opportunity for students to be involved in their community.”
