Don Henley receives Kennedy Honor

The Kennedy Center Honors Gala was held Dec. 4, and this year’s class of honorees included Linden native Don Henley.
The 39th Annual Kennedy Center Honors recognized the Eagles, an iconic band of which Henley was a founding member. The gala will be aired on CBS on Dec. 27 at 8 p.m.
The Eagles are one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time, having sold more than 150 million records.
Henley was the drummer, vocalist and songwriter for the Eagles from 1971–1980, when the band broke up, and from 1994–2016, when they reunited. He sang the lead vocals on Eagles hits such as “Witchy Woman,” “Desperado,” “Best of My Love,” “One of These Nights,”  “Hotel California,” “Life in the Fast Lane,” “The Long Run” and “Get Over It.”
Henley also has enjoyed a successful solo career with hits such as “Dirty Laundry,” “The Boys of Summer,” “All She Wants to Do Is Dance,” “The Heart of the Matter,” “The Last Worthless Evening,” “Sunset Grill,” “Not Enough Love in the World” and “The End of the Innocence.”
In 2015 Henley honored his East Texas roots and his hometown with the release of his fifth solo studio album titled Cass County.
Others receiving honors were Al Pacino, Mavis Staples, James Taylor and Martha Argerich.
