Rebecca’s Pantry , named in memory of a former Atlanta pastoral service employee, Rebecca Moulton, will hold its 10th annual Marathon for the Hungry food drive at Brookshires in Atlanta on Nov. 16 from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The timing of the fall food collection is not by accident.
Rebecca’s Pantry Director Rick Grandmaison said that each week they serve about 120 clients. He said that during the summer months the need tends to taper off, but September through January tends to be their biggest time of need.
Grandmaison said they he got involved in the ministry about three years ago when he started attending Westside Baptist Church, the pantry’s location.
Rebecca’s pantry opened their doors on July 2, 2007 to minister to Cass County residents on low income. Each Thursday, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. between 10 and 20 volunteers will serve their regular clients. The pantry also provides Christmas boxes, Grandmaison added.
He said that over the years the community had really come through to help. In addition to the fall food drive, they partner with the U.S.Postal Service in the spring for its Stamp Out Hunger drive. Brookshire’s has also been a regular donor as have local Scout troops and other service clubs.
The pantry is located on the Westyside Baptist campus, 712 W. Main in Atlanta . Those wishing to donate may do so by stopping at the church office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
