LINDEN—For the 23rd year, the students of Linden-Kildare will say “thank you,” to area veterans with a special program at the high school.
The National Honor Society chapter will present its Veterans Day program on Nov. 11.
Gail Dorgan, faculty advisor for the NHS, said students in the dual credit history/ English class will provide refreshments from 8 to 8:45 a.m. The program will be held from 9 to 10:45 a.m.
The student-led program will feature performances by the L-K High Band, the Mae Luster Stephens Junior High choir and a slide show.
Lining the school’s hallways will be veteran posters created by the dual credit students.
Dorgan said that in preparing for the program students in the dual credit class are required to write a biographical paper about a Cass County veteran. Through the project, she said, students not only develop interviewing skills but also learn about the history of warfare and the military from a personal perspective.
Ceremony at courthouse
Bob Swisher, with the Linden VFW Post #6968, said that after the high school ceremony has concluded a short program will be held at the veterans memorial outside the historic courthouse around 11 a.m.
The public is invited to both of these events.
Veterans will then be invited to the VFW post for a brunch.
