The Atlanta City Council discussed the maintenance needs of the Grandview water system at its meeting on Sept. 6.
There are currently two water tanks, an elevated tank and a ground tank, within the Grandview system, and the latter is due for a thorough repainting.
According to City Manager David Cockrell, the tank needs to be repainted on both the outside and the inside, which will require the suspension of water flow through the grounded tank.
As of this point, water passes through the grounded tank, to the elevated tank (tower), where it is then dispersed to homes and businesses.
The $223,000 project is expected to start this coming February, due to water usage being at its lowest during that time of year.
It will take approximately 30 days to finish the project.
In order to make up for the grounded tank’s absence, the council is in talks with Texarkana Water Utilities regarding their ability to supply water for the Grandview water tower.
The agenda also included the selection of a public accounting firm for the city’s upcoming audit.
The City Council received bids from Wilf & Henderson PC and Holliday Lemons & Cox PC, which has preformed the city’s audit for around 25 years.
The council voted to go with Wilf & Henderson for the audit.
The council also approved a $75,000 Rural Business Enterprise Loan for the opening of a Potato Patch and Eden Bubble Tea at the former KFC building off of Highway 59.
This is the same type of loan that contributed to Luigi’s Italian Café’s successful endeavor in downtown Atlanta.
