A small single engine plane crashed landed on the Indian Hills Country Club golf course in Atlanta early Monday afternoon.
A spokesperson with the Texas Highway Patrol said no one was in the plane or on the ground was injured in the incident.
He said the 53-year-old pilot, Michael Leslie Johnson of Jefferson, had tried to land at the Hall-Miller Airport and experienced some type of problem causing a hard landing that caused him to bounce back into the air. The pilot tried to regain attitude and circle back around.
One golfer who asked not to be identified said the plane was sputtering before it clipped a tree and a small portion of the roof of an aluminum-sided golf cart barn just off Highway 59 between the Hall-Miller Airport and the golf course.
The 1943 Boeing A75N vintage biplane is registered to Johnson.
According to another eyewitness, Johnson and a passenger were in the aircraft when it came to rest on the women’s tee box on hole No. 7.
Before 3 p.m., golfers had resumed playing despite the fact the plane remained on the course.
Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were expected at the site of the incident on Tuesday to investigate the cause of the accident.
