County approves smoking ban

Cass County officials want you to keep your butts off their property -- cigarette butts that is.
During an Aug. 23 meeting of Commissioners’ Court, commissioners unanimously approved a ban on smoking at two county facilities.
The Cass County Historical Courthouse, in Linden, and the Cass County Law Enforcement and Justice Center have been declared “non-smoking campuses.” Where previously smoking was allowed outside the buildings, now no smoking will be allowed on county property.
The county said that e-cigarettes or vaping is included in the ban.
In other business, the, commissioners approved the fee schedule for the sheriff’s, constables’ and justice of the peaces’ offices effective Jan. 1, 2017.
New fees are: writs of sequestration, attachment/ person or property, execution, possession, order of sale, tax warrant, civil capias, letter/ removing license plate or order of retrieval; $135.
Also: citation scire facias, notice to show cause, subpoena, subpoena- duces tecum, deposition subpoena, summons, precept to serve, forcible detainer, temporary restraining order, injunction and writ of habeas corpus; $125.
Also: citation by personal service, district clerk’s citation by certified mail, citation by posting (county clerk); $100. Citation by posting or publication (district clerk), citation by certified mail (county clerk); $75.
Other fees include: law library, $50 and sheriff deed, $25.
