Cass County reports strong tax collections for April

Cass County bucked a statewide trend of dropping sales tax collection, by posting a strong month in April.
According to state Comptroller Glenn Hegar Texas saw a 1.8 percent drop statewide in sales tax allocations for the month of June. This is based on sales tax collected and reported by businesses during April and compared with the same time period last year.
However, in Cass County retailers saw a 3.42 percent increase.
Percentagewise, Queen City had the best month posting a 20.21 percent increase or $28,139.54 collected. Domino retailers collected $7,566.88, which was a 138.33 percent increase.
As the largest retail center in the county, Atlanta merchants had a relatively flat month. They collected $149,873.21 in sales tax in April, which was a .92 percent drop over April, 2015.
On the opposite end of the dollar spectrum, Douglassville reported $223.83 in sales tax collection. This represented a 9.84 percent increase over 2015.
Bloomburg turned in $1,911.21 in sales tax, a drop of 2.17 percent.
During April the cities of Linden, Hughes Springs and Avinger participated in the Wildflowers Trails Festival. This provided mixed results in sales tax collections.
Hughes Springs saw an 11.6 percent drop, from $23,943.54 in April 2015 to $21,164.65 this year.
Linden had a strong month, pulling in $30,906.03 in sales tax. This is 10.11 percent increase over last year. Avinger saw a similar increase of 8.07 percent, going from $3,887.96 reported in 2015 to $4,201.16 reported this year.
