The Atlanta Area Chamber of Commerce is anticipating a large turnout for the Steven Smith Memorial Cruise Night this Friday.
“I expect it to be very well attended,” Chamber President Miranda Johnson said. “We also have a good crowd for the cruise night. I think even more may come out this year to pay tribute to Steven Smith.”
The annual event was renamed in memory of Atlanta resident Steven Smith, who was killed in a tragic racetrack incident this past spring.
“We renamed the event in his honor because he loved cars and was always very community-minded and very active in the community,” Johnson added.
In addition to the popular classic cars that will be on display, a homemade ice cream contest is a crowd-pleaser. The contest features individual and business divisions with four categories: vanilla variety, chocolate variety, fresh fruit or specialty flavor.
Participants have until Thursday to enter the contest. Entry forms are available at the chamber office or can be obtained electronically by emailing Johnson at Miranda.johnson@atlantatexas.org.
The ice cream contest is sponsored by CHRISTUS St. Michael, and winners in each category will receive an awards certificate. The coveted People’s Choice will receive a special prize, Johnson said.
The cruise night starts at 5 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m.
