AHS DECA team takes part in international competition

From Staff Reports

Atlanta High School DECA students recently attended the International Competition in Nashville. They were among 18,000 students who qualified from their respective state or country level to attend. They presented their business proposal May 24 to the AISD school board.
DECA is a marketing and business program at the high school and college level that is centered on students learning real-world skills through various scenarios and projects. These teach the students important skills that they may not learn otherwise.
“Not only does DECA teach them relevant skills for the business world, it allows them to see the possibilities for their life,” Atlanta High School DECA teacher and marketing advisor, Jeff Siler said. “It truly brings out the best of the students.”
To advance to the International level the students must qualify from their respective state.
More than 4,000 students competed in San Antonio, and only a few hundred advanced to next level.
“I was so proud to see six students from our high school get on stage at state. It really was a confirmation of all their hard work and dedication,” Siler said.
