Big Bird Crawfish Boil Set for May 21

LINDEN-- The 19th Annual Big Bird Crawfish Boil, which benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, is May 21, just south of Linden.
This year’s event will honor Layken Boyd and Kenzington Carpenter.
Big Bird organizer Pam Cornett Whatley said they hope to clear $10,000 to donate to the research hospital.
Plaques for each honoree will be placed on the walls of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in celebration of their lives.
To date, the Big Bird Committee has celebrated the lives of 38 loved ones by honoring them on the Celebration of Life Wall at St Jude’s in Memphis, Tenn.
The annual event begins with an auction at 11 a.m. with items donated by individuals and local merchants from all over the Ark-La-Tex.
One of the feature items of the auction is a memory quilt. This year’s quilt was handcrafted by Wanda Davis and Ruth Dilliard, both of Florida.
“We did everything by phone,” said Whatley. “We sent them the T-shirts and they made this beautiful quilt.”
Members will also sell “Big Bird” T-shirts at the event.

Cass County’s best cooks are known for their home¬made baked goods for the annual cake walk.
Crawfish and the trimmings will be served at noon.
Jay Crawford and his crew from the A&L Hunting Club on FM 1617 have once again offered their services. For the past several years, they have served up some spicy crawfish for event-goers.
If guests don’t like crawfish, they may opt to try some of their barbecue, hamburgers and hot dogs.
While waiting for the abundance of food, attendees may want to participate in the horseshoe tournament. The Horse¬shoe tournament trophies are sponsored by Wesley and Christy Nutt from Quality Buildings in Queen City.
To date, the Big Bird Crawfish Boil has donated more than $172,000 to St. Jude Research
To get to the event from Linden go west on Texas Highway 155. Take the first left at County Road 1617. The event is 4.3 miles on the right, look for signs.
