Linden Heritage Foundations holds membership reception

LINDEN-- A reception was held on April 23, at the home of Ruth Halleck honoring the 207 Charter Members of the Linden Heritage Foundation., with 44 Foundation Charter members out of the 60 people in attendance.
The Hospitality Commit¬tee for the reception for the event was composed of Wanda Burns, Charlotte Wells, and Mary Janet Wells. Members were briefed on the current status of the following Foundation activities including the Request for Proposal (RFP) to develop Linden’s 1934 Water Tower and 1939 Linden Firehouse. The RFP will be formally considered for approval by the Linden City Council at its May 9 meeting and released to potential developers on May 18.
There was also discussion about the Linden Firehouse Rescue Fund Campaign and efforts to have Linden designated as a Texas Main Street town.
A conceptual rendering of the restored 1939 Fire¬house by Lucas Allen, a senior engineering student at LeTourneau University in Longview and a 3-D conceptual model of the expanded area around the Water Tower and Fire¬house by Ed Sergeant was placed on display.
Sergeant is a restoration architect from Little Rock whose wife, Laura, was born in Linden. The mod-els are part of a “Reimagining Linden” process supported by the Foundation as part of efforts to repurpose the Water Tower and Firehouse in support of Linden’s economic redevelopment.
The Foundation is asking residents to take a look at any old family photo albums that may show this or that building within a few blocks of the Courthouse. Old photos with nothing more than small pieces of buildings in the background can boost the town’s ability to “re-imagine” its own unique self and reclaim its own best original features. So, please spread the word that old photos are needed for the Old Firehouse; Main Street and for the RFP.
