Wildflower Trails Festival returns

LINDEN—April 21 through 23 promises to be a busy weekend across Cass County with the communities of Linden, Avinger and Hughes Springs hosting the 46th Annual Wildflowers Trails of Texas Festival.
Within each city, there is an extensive list of events scheduled through the weekend.
In Linden, the celebration kicks off with the Cass County Championship Rodeo at the arena on Highway 8 North, on April 22. The rodeo begins with Mutton Bustin’ at 7:30 p.m. followed by the professional rodeo at 8 p.m. A portion of Friday night’s proceeds will go toward Cass County Relay for Life.
Saturday will be a fun-filled day of activities, starting with a 5K run which begins on the Courthouse Square at 8:30 a.m.
Throughout the day, starting at 9 a.m., the Courthouse Square will be filled with arts and craft booths, food vendors and live music. Scheduled to perform this year are the Napper Sisters, the E-Flat Porch Band and Cody Cook and the Bayou Outlaws.
The Cass County Championship Rodeo Association will host a Children’s Area with inflatables, a giant slide and water balloon war behind the Texana Bank.
Entries in the amateur art show and contest can be viewed on the Square near the city hall. While there, grab some Blue Bell ice cream at the city hall or head a couple of blocks north to the Lion’s Den for and old fashioned cake walk.
Just east of the Square, the Linden Garden Club will host their annual Flower Show. This year’s theme is “Floral Expressions of Cass County,” starting at 9 a.m.
Moving over to the First Baptist Church, festival-goers can enjoy a quilt show in the fellowship hall or a car show in the parking lot.
From 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. there will be a 42 Tournament at the Linden Senior Center.
A parade will make its way through Downtown Linden at 2 p.m.
The weekend’s activities conclude in Linden Saturday night with Cass County Championship Rodeo. The rodeo begins with Mutton Bustin’ at 7:30 p.m. followed by the professional rodeo at 8 p.m.
A special ‘Critter Scramble’ will also be held both nights.
