That time of year is here again as the Toys for Tots drive gears up for another successful season.
Cass County Coordinator and Independent Marketing Consultant Monica Beeman is spearheading the event for the children of Cass County who are not able to receive gifts during the Christmas holidays for a number of reasons.
This is Monica’s ninth year to lead Toys for Tots in our county, and she is looking forward to another successful run.
Things are relatively the same but there’s a twist on the applications this year.
Requests for toys is ONLINE ONLY this year and applications must be in by Friday, Nov. 20.
The request form can be found at www.texarkana-tx.toysfortots.org.
The documents needed at pick up include driver’s license or state ID, proof of residency with current address and birth certificate and social security cards for all children.
Pick up date will be from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 19, at West Side Baptist Church.
Toys for Tots has been a mainstay here in America since its inception in 1947 after Major Bill Hendricks of the United States Marine Corps Reserves founded the program in Los Angeles.
The campaign leading up to Christmas in ’47 netted a collection of 5,000 toys for children who were less fortunate.
The primary goal of Toys for Tots has always been to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.
The objectives of Toys for Tots are to help less fortunate children throughout the United States experience the joy of Christmas; to play an active role in the development of one of our nation’s most valuable resources – our children; to unite all members of local communities in a common cause for three months each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign and to contribute to better communities in the future.
To date billions of toys have been distributed to billions of children around the world who are less fortunate including times of war, recession, natural disasters and peace.
