First Baptist Church, Atlanta’s Children’s choir will begin their newest season of ministry September 16.
The program, which has boasted several generations of students, began in 1990 according to Dale Perkins, Music Minister at First Baptist Church.
Children’s choir at FBC Atlanta is open to any child ages 4 through 6th grade. “Choirs are fully graded so everyone is not in same room, but rather with children their own age” said Perkins.
Kids who participate in the program learn basic concepts of music from rhythms, reading music notes, and movement.
“We are going to have an awesome musical play called an Out of the Box Christmas. We will also showcase our individual choirs throughout the year” Lindsey Boston said. Lindsey has served as Children’s Choirs Coordinator for the last five years.
Currently, more than 20 adults volunteer their time to help with the program on Wednesday nights.
“Some of these people have worked in the program as long as 20 years,” Perkins said, “They love teaching these children music and putting the music in their heart so it’s in their daily life.”
“I love seeing how much the kids grow each year and then have them graduate to the youth choir. It always gives me great joy to see how they are using their talents for the Lord as they get older” Boston said.
The church has scheduled this year’s kick-off party to register new participants for September 13 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at the corner of Hiram and Mills street in Atlanta.
