Best in state: AHS Journalism team earns 1st State UIL Championship

They don’t jump hurdles or run sprints, but what the Atlanta High School Journalism team has accomplished is significant nonetheless. They are the new 4A UIL State Champions. 
The group of four have brought home a state championship to Atlanta for the first time in their category. And the team as a whole garnered 32 points, more than twice what their second place opponents earned, 15, at the UIL state championship meet.
The win is also a meaningful send off for one of Atlanta ISD’s educators. Susan Greig will be retiring after this year. The team for 2015 was her seventh in nine years to coach all the way to the state level, but are her first state champs. 
“These are excellent students and I knew we had a great chance of winning the championship if they each did what they know to do,” Greig told the Citizens Journal. “However, when I saw the final results and realized that all four had won a medal I was blown away. I was hoping to have two or three medal but to have four win was such a rare and wonderful thing I don’t think I have words to describe how I felt.
