Jon Borseth said the past 90 plus days as the Cass County Precinct 2 Commissioner have been very hectic and educational.
Borseth said since taking office he has had the opportunity to meet many people living in the precinct and get to know the Precinct 2 road crew and personally inspect over three-fourths of the county roads.
He explained everyone in Cass County was affected by the double snow falls that caused treacherous driving conditions and created very hazardous road conditions. The low temperatures caused the wet roads to freeze, creating almost instantaneous pot holes in the county. The heavy snow fall caused hundreds of trees to fall onto the roadways.
Borseth said the freezing temperatures, melting snow and multiple inches of rain have and are continuing to cause rapidly deteriorating road conditions all over the county.
“This will take months to repair and I would ask that all residents of Precinct 2 and the rest of Cass County to be patient and give us time to access the damage, schedule priorities and make repairs,” Borseth said.
Since Precinct 2 has over 330 miles of county roads Borseth would like to solicit everyone’s help in reporting damage to their roads, keeping in mind it may take a few weeks or longer for his crew to make the necessary repairs. As he inspects the damage to the roads, he is prioritizing each road and is repairing the most heavily damaged roads first.
“Although your particular road may be hard to navigate, the damage to it may not be the highest priority,” Borseth explained. “There are many miles of road that are not just bad, but impassible and need to be repaired as soon as conditions will allow.”
