Atlanta voters to decide beer, wine sales

Atlanta voters will get to voice their opinion on whether or not alcoholic beverages can be sold in the city when they go to the polls May 9.
Last week a petition signed by more than 500 people was presented to Atlanta City Secretary Danica Porter asking for the measure to be placed on the ballot. Under the language of the measure, voters will decide whether or not to allow beer and wine sales for off-premise consumption.
Danica Porter said that on Dec. 19 Rebecca Hatch filed an application for a petition with the City of Atlanta. Hatch represents Texas Petition Strategies (TPS), an Austin-based company which specializes in local options, bond elections and political consulting. TPS also has offices in Arlington.
