Date set for 2015 return of Forest Festival

An Atlanta tradition will make a return this fall as organizers resurrect the Fall Festival.
This year’s festival will be held Oct. 7-10, says festival committee member and Atlanta Area Chamber of Commerce President Miranda Johnson.
Organizers say that it will be held in the property behind the Atlanta Fire Station where Atlanta’s old track is located.
The Forest Festival was the successor to the Atlanta Watermelon Festival, which had taken place in the 1940’s and 1950’s.
In 1967 members of Atlanta Festival’s, Inc. wanted to relive the fun they remembered at the
watermelon festival and created the Forest Festival.
Organizers say that for at least 30 years, the Forest Festival was a mainstay for the communities in and around Atlanta and served to bring much needed influx of funds to the local economy. Many would remember playing games such as Penny in the Pine or Cow Chip Toss or riding rides such as the
Zipper, double Ferris wheel or even watching hot air balloons take flight.
