Laws Chapel United Methodist Church celebrated the completion of a major renovation and new construction project with a re-consecration service Feb. 1.
The Rev. Bill Taylor, superintendent of the Texas Annual Conference’s North District, was on hand to re-consecrate the sanctuary, sanctuary furnishings and educational addition.
In addition to the congregation, representatives from area churches of varying denominations were on hand to celebrate the occasion.
The service opened with a congregational singing of How Great Thou Art, followed by the Laws Chapel Choir singing Upon This Rock.
Taylor offered prayers of re-consecration for the church building, the pulpit, baptism font, Lord’s Table and educational addition. The pulpit, Taylor said, represented the presentation of the words of Holy Scripture. “When your Word is read and preached from this pulpit,” he prayed. “Purify the lives and lips of those who speak here, that your Word may be heard and obeyed.”
The baptism font and the Lord’s Table serve as symbols of the two ordinances recognized by the United Methodist Church—Baptism and Holy Communion.
During the service, the church also recognized the financial contributions of the Dugger family.
The service concluded with a congregational singing of Blessed Be The Tie That Binds. Following the service, a reception was held in the fellowship hall and tours of the building held.
