LEDC sent back to drawing board on debated budget

 There was a heated discussion between aldermen on Aug. 11 during the Linden City Council meeting about the Linden Economic Development’s proposed budget. Alderman Sue Lazara accused the LEDC of presenting an unbalanced budget. 
The moment Mayor Clarence Burns announced the next item on the agenda was to take action on  LEDC’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2014-2015, Lazara said she would like to make a motion.
“I would like to make a motion right off the top that we require all city agencies to present a balanced budget, not a surplus spending budget. That is what we have here by $57,000,” Lazara stated.
Unsure of what the motion was, Burns and the remaining council asked Lazara to restate her motion. 
“That we ask LEDC to present a balanced budget rather than a deficit budget and that their expenditure for the year be within the projected revenue for the year,” Lazara said.
Alderman Holly Wall seconded the motion. Alderman Chuck Evans and Kenny Hamilton were opposed. 
In alderman Pat Roberson’s absents, it was up to the mayor to break the tie. He gave a deep sigh. Hamilton asked for discussion. Hamilton said he has complete confidence in the LEDC board.
“I am not ready to cut their knees out from under them at this time,” Hamilton added...
