Juneteenth Celebration held at Pleasant Hill

The grounds of the former Pleasant Hill School were a place of celebration and fellowship for the Cass County Juneteenth Club’s first Juneteenth Celebration held on June 19. It was a day of fellowship and reflection for more than 100 people who spent the day taking part in the many activities organized by Oteria McDaniel and several volunteers.
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. It is a day for all Americans to celebrate African American history and rejoice in their freedom.  
There was plenty of food and activities for participants throughout the day.
McDaniel said they paid special tribute to those who are 80-plus years old. Participants recalled a time of few modern conveniences.
