Runnin’ Rabbs host own relays this past weekend

Atlanta’s track squad hosted the 18th annual Runnin’ Rabbs/Gordon Pynes/Atlanta Lions Club Relays this past weekend, and with a solid chance for rain forecasted, most of the events were moved up to finals so that everyone could compete before officials cancelled the meet.
Field events began at nine that morning and running events took place around the same time to try and beat out any rainfall, but some of the events carried on during brief moments of heavy precipitation with no stoppages.
About ten minutes before the  running events took place, the 1989 track members and coaches were honored before a sizeable crowd in memory of Atlanta’s first-ever state championship in any sport.
In the running events, Jeremy Smith claimed a fourth place finish in the 200m dash for the varsity boys with a time of 22.98, Shannon Jones placed third in the 800m run at 2:06.62, Nick Bergt finished fifth in the same event at 2:08.35 and Silas Henderson placed sixth in the 800m run at 2:09.94.
John Baker placed sixth in the 3200m run at 10:50.26, the 4x100m relay team of Tyler Williams, Trevor Carroll, Dequan Allen and Jeremy Smith placed third at 43.64, the 4x200m relay team of Smith, Williams, Carroll and Dewayne Washington placed third at 1:32.54 and the 4x400m relay team placed sixth at 3:40.24 behind the leg power of Allen, Williams, Curtis Smith and Jason fields.
Kenneth Houff placed first in the high jump at 6’, Eddrick King placed sixth in the triple jump at 40’ 11 1/2” and Israel Medina claimed first in the pole vault at 11’.
For the varsity girls’ team, Byeishea Haskins placed third in the 100m dash at 13.20, Jada Pickens finished third in the 400m dash at 1:02.54, Deanna Dickerson placed fifth in the 100m hurdles at 17.48, Alisha Phelps placed fifth in the 800m run at 2:37.58 and Alyssa Whetstone placed sixth in the 1600m at 6:20.55 and later placed fifth in the 3200m run at 14:07.78.
The 4x100m relay team of Aniya King, Caroline Cullins, Pickens and Haskins placed fifth at 52.43, the 4x200m relay team of Cullins, Haskins, Dickerson and Teshuna Sheppard placed fifth at 1:51.30 and the 4x400m relay team of Sheppard, Cullins, Pickens and Keosha Fedrick placed fifth at 4:21.29.
Jakendra Dickerson placed sixth in the long jump event with a leap of 15’ 10”, Teshuna Sheppard placed second in the triple jump at 33’ 11 1/2” and Aaliyah Carter placed third in the high jump at 4’ 8”.
Danniele Hatley and crystal Jones placed 1-2 in the shot put with heaves of 34’ 1” and 33’ 4” respectively, Savannah McClure placed third in the pole vault at 7’, Starr Davis placed fifth in the pole vault at 6’ 6” and Olivia Key placed sixth in the same event at 6’.
For the jayvee boys team, Kelton young placed fifth in the 200m dash at 24.60, Dylan Hunt placed third in the 800m run at 2:14.30, Trin’Javiun Taylor placed third in the 110m hurdles at 17.71, Calvin Rowe placed fifth in the 100m hurdles at 18.59 and Calvin Young placed sixth in the same event at 18.81.
Josh Seavey racked up seven points by himself after finishing third in the 3200m run at 11:34.12 and sixth in the 1600m run at 5:27.55, Carson Lambert placed first in the in the 300m hurdles event at 44.75 and teammate Trin’Javiun Taylor placed third in the same event at 45.60.
The 4x100m relay team of Shelton Haskins, Caleb Young, Kelton Young and Tyrell Phillips placed fourth at 46.91, the 4x200m relay team of Phillips, Taylor, Kelton Young and Caleb Young placed fourth at 1:37.93 and the 4x400m relay team of Tristen Allen, Desmond Robinson, Calvin Rowe and Dylan Hunt placed sixth at 3:56.13.
In the triple jump, Kelton Young finished third with a jump of 37’ 9 1/4”, Caleb Young and Kelton Young finished 5-6 in the long jump with leaps of 16’ 11” each, Allen, Robinson and Taylor finished 1-2-3 for the Rabbs in the high jump event with bounds of 6’ and 5’ 8” respectively and Lambert and Hunt finished 1-2 in the pole vault at 10’ and 9’.
Other than host Atlanta, Texas High, Kaufman, Liberty-Eylau, Mt. Pleasant, Tatum, Redwater and Daingerfield sent athletes to compete in the Rabbs’ Relays.
