It is official. The March 4 Primary election results are approved. The votes were canvassed on March 13 by the Republican and Democratic parties’ executive committees.
Of the 18,955 registered voters 4,534 votes were cast in the primary election. Of those 777 voters selected the Democratic ballot and 3,757 the Republican ballot.
The results confirm that Becky Wilbanks will be Cass County’s next County Judge.
Wilbanks-R captured the county judge seat with 2,232 votes to her opponents George Fite-R with 1,026 votes, while Joe Harrison-R had 434 votes.
There will be a runoff election for District Clerk between Jamie Price Albertson-R with 1,347 votes and Pam Jaynes-R with 1,230 votes. Jessica R. Fitts-R will not be included as she received 931 votes.
Randal Lee-R handily won the Republican District Attorney race with 2,273 votes, compared to John McIntyre’s-R 1,140 votes and Tina Richardson’s-D 624 votes.
Lee and Richardson will face off in the general election in November when the district attorney’s race will be decided.
County Clerk will also be decided in November when democratic incumbent Jannis Mitchell will run against opponent Jamie O’Rand. O’Rand-R received 2,768 votes for county clerk, and Mitchell-D received 644 votes.
In the Precinct 2 Commissioner’s race, Jon Borseth-R garnered 599 votes and Danny Joe Shaddix-D had 141 votes. This race will also be decided in November.
With no challengers, Democratic incumbents in the Justice of the Peace races for Precinct 1, 2 and 3 will retain their positions. Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Barbara McMillan received 194 votes, Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Gina M. Bassham with 133 votes and Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Micki Henderson garnered 186 votes.
For Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace incumbent Bridget Green Smith-R received 728 votes to her opponent Norman Moorehead-R with 309 votes.
Other incumbents running unopposed were County Court at Law Judge Donald Dowd-R with 3,143 votes; Justice 6th Court of Appeals District Place 3 Ralph Burgess-R with 2,893 votes; State Representative District 9 Chris Padde-R with 2,720 votes and Commissioner Precinct 4 Darrell P. Godwin-R with 910 votes.
All of the propositions on both the republican ballot and the democratic ballot passed both in Cass County and in the state wide election.
Early voting for the primary runoff election will start May 19 and end May 23. The primary runoff election will be held Tuesday, May 27.
