Information reveals who is in the running for county office

Candidates filing continues for the March primary election. Several candidates have filed for the positions up for re-election.
Cass County Judge Charles McMichael and District Attorney Clint Allen have said they will not be running for reelection.
These are the offices that are up for election: County Court at Law Judge, County Judge, County Clerk, District Clerk, Commissioners for Precinct 2 and 4, all Justice of the Peace Offices, District Attorney and County Treasurer.
Those wanting to run for an office must first file an Appointment of Campaign Treasurer with the
County Clerk’s Office. They must file this before they can make any expenditures or accept any contributions.
The time to file their application for a place on the ballot is Nov. 9 – Dec. 9. The application, along with the fee, must be filed with the party chairman. The Republican Party chair is Eileen Collins, 903-728-5485. The Democrat Party Chairman is Lee Ellen Benjamin, 903-826-5932.
As of Monday afternoon those who have filed with the Republican Party Chairman are George Fite of Hughes Spring for county judge; Donald Dowd of Linden for county court-at-law judge; John McIntyre of Hughes Springs and Randal Lee of Atlanta for district attorney; County Treasurer Donna Early of Linden and Bridgett Green Smith of Bivins for Justice of the Peace Precinct 4.
Those who have filed with the Democratic Party Chairman are County Clerk Jannis Mitchell of Linden, Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Barbara McMillon of Linden, Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Gina Bassham of Hughes Springs, Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 Micki Henderson of Queen City, Commissioner Precinct 2 Danny Joe Shaddix of Marietta and Tina Richardson of Queen City for district attorney.
The primary election will be March 4, 2014. The Secretary of State’s website is www.sos.state.tx.us.
