City to increase sewer rate effective Jan. 14

By Angela Guillory
Linden City council approved a $4 increase in the sewer rate during their Oct. 21 meeting held at the Mary Daughety Senior Citizens Center.
Mayor Clarence Burns informed council for the past three years the city has suffered a loss in excess of $30,000 in the sewer department due to increased repair costs and declining infrastructure.  He purposed a $3 a month sewer rate increase. The current rate is $9 for the first 2,000 gallons and $2 per each 1,000 gallons after that.
After some discussion it was agreed by council a $4 a month rate increase would generate approximately $44,000 and cover the cost and provide the city with the additional revenue needed to make necessary repairs to the sewer plant and lines.
