McConnells celebrate 50th anniversary

Frankie and Lynda McConnell celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a renewal of vows ceremony at Rains, Talley and Cothron Funeral Home Chapel in Marshall Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013.
A reception followed at Eastern Hills Church of Christ Fellowship Hall hosted by their children and grandchildren.
The couple was married Sept. 6, 1963, in Marshall.
Since their marriage, they have lived in Texarkana, Atlanta and Marshall. They have three children, Frankie McConnell II and wife Mandy of Acton, Calif.; Amie Grubbs and husband John of Jefferson; and Eric McConnell of Woodlawn. They have four grandchildren, Austyn McConnell, Mason McConnell, Cameron Grubbs and Parker Grubbs.
Mr. McConnell served in the U.S. Army and worked more than 40 years as a newspaper photographer at the Atlanta Citizens Journal, Marshall News Messenger, Lone Star Eagle and the Texarkana Gazette, where he was named “Employee of the Year 2000.” 
He assisted George Foreman with public relations and was instrumental in securing a place for Foreman in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Waco.
Mrs. McConnell worked in photography before graduating from ETBU with a Bachelor of Science in education and UT Tyler with a Master of Education and a MRT certification. She taught for Marshall ISD for 28 years.
They are members of Eastern Hills Church of Christ, where he serves as deacon and she teaches children’s Bible classes. 
Their hobbies include attending their grandchildren’s activities and traveling on Amtrak.
