Fourth Annual Hope 4-H FFA Forestry Invitational

Special to the Sun

The Fourth Annual Hope 4-H McLeod FFA Forestry Invitational took place on Wednesday, March 1 at Crow-Heath Park in Linden.
139 4-H and FFA members competed individually and as teams.
There were approximately 50 volunteers, teachers, agents and parents -- as well as our Cass County Judge, Becky Wilbanks -- in attendance. Volunteers helped with registration, overseeing each station, serving BBQ sandwiches for lunch, calculating results and the county judge presented the awards.
The top three teams were recognized: Avery FFA Team #1 was First Place, Central Heights Team #1 was Second Place and Hope 4-H Team #1 was Third Place -- all three top teams had a score of 228 and were placed using the standard tie breaker.
McLeod FFA Team #1 placed 9th of 39 teams.
The top 10 individual scores were recognized. Jake Smith, Central Heights, placed First Individually winning the buckle. Andrew Harp and Joshua Whatley, both Cass County Hope 4-H members, tied for sixth place individually.
The contest was made possible by many sponsors: Cass County Farm Bureau, Texas Farm Credit, Harp Land and Timber, Marion Cass SWCD, Texana Bank, McLeod Boom, Bowie Cass Electric, Brookshire’s, Crump’s, Chicken Express and Twice the Ice.
