Atlanta Baseball

Atlanta’s baseball team took part in the Pittsburg Tournament last weekend, and came out of the fray with two wins and two close losses.
In game one the Rabbits fell to Carrollton’s Newman Smith, 3-2.
Jake Thompson was masterful from the hill as he scattered three hits with 15 strikeouts. He also added a single to his credit from the dish.
Layton Henson smashed a solo homerun and hit a double as he went 2-for-3; Max Ebarb was 2-for-4 and Nick Hale hit an RBI single.
In the second game played on March 3, the Rabbs topped Mt. Pleasant, 10-2.
Atlanta scored six runs in the second inning and added four more in the fifth and sixth innings.
Andy Samples went 2-for-2 with a double and a ribbie; Cade Rosser was 2-for-3 with two RBIs; Thompson was 2-for-3; Jose Arredondo collected a hit, Henson had a double with two RBIs and both Hale and Max Ebarb contributed RBIs.
Slayton Holland scattered three hits over four innings with four strikeouts and Arredondo pitched a couple of innings of relief.
In the third game, Atlanta won a back-and-forth game over Brownsboro by a score of, 11-4.
Both teams were locked at, 1-1, after the first innings and Brownsboro went up, 3-1, after two innings of play.
The Bears only scored one more run in the game while Atlanta scored 10 runs in the next three innings combined.
Davis Flint was 2-for-5 with three RBIs; Brock Childress was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs; Ebarb was 3-for-5 with an RBI; Arredondo had an RBI double; Thompson had an RBI and Hale added a single.
Grant Harrell scattered five hits over six innings with three Ks and Ebarb struck out three in one innings of relief.
In the final game of the tourney Atlanta suffered a close, 3-2, loss to Arkansas High.
Hale hit an RBI triple; Flint had an RBI and the Rabbs got hit contributions from Henson, Arredondo and Luke Anthony.
Hale pitched a complete game with six hits given up and two Ks.

Atlanta Softball

Atlanta’s softball team competed in the Longview Tournament from Feb 23-25, and ended the event with a first place crown.
The Lady Rabbs opened up play with a dominating, 9-0, win over Elysian Fields in five innings.
Kaydee Kelly and Gracie Smith combined for the short shutout.
Alyssa Simmons was 2-for-4 with three runs and two stolen bags; Victoria Bergt scored a run and had an RBI and Smith was 2-for-3 with two ribbies.
In the second contest Atlanta trounced DeKalb, 15-0, off of 15 hits in five innings.
Kaydee Kelly pitched a 1-hit shutout after five innings and received plenty of help form the plate.
Simmons went 2-for-5 with an RBI; Rebecca Thomas was 2-for-2 with two homeruns and five RBIs;
Kinsey Kelly was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs; Amanda Whatley was 2-for-3 with two ribeyes; Victoria Johnson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs; Daniela Arredondo was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Cydnee Wood was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
From March 2-4, the Lady Rabbs played in another Longview tourney and came out with a third place finish.
Against Kilgore the Lady Rabbs won, 11-1, off of 11 hits in six innings.
Thomas went the distance from the circle with six scattered hits and four strikeouts.
Wood was 2-for-4 with two RBIs; Kinsey Kelly was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI; Thomas was 2-for-4 with a homerun and four RBIs; and Smith was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Lady Rabbs also topped Arp, 13-2, off of 15 hits in five innings.
Thomas scattered three hits from the circle and Kaydee Kelly came in and gave up two hits while striking out five batters.
Wood was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, four runs and two ribbies; Bergt was 3-for-3 with an RBI; Kinsey Kelly was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Smith was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.

QC Baseball

Queen City (8-2) went 4-0 in the Cumby Tournament this past weekend.  
In one game Josue Rea didn’t allow a single run as Queen City defeated Cumby, 14-0, last Friday. Rea allowed just one hit in six innings with 11 Ks.
Queen City scored seven runs in the sixth inning alone. Rea earned the win for Queen City Bulldogs Varsity. 
Rob Hill, Kyle Parker and Colton Henry each drove in two runs to lead Queen City.
The Bulldogs’ next game was an, 11-5, win over Wolfe City.
In the first inning Jaeger Jaynes singled, driving in two runs, Hunter Fitts singled, driving in one run, and Henry singled, driving in one run.
Matthew Davenport earned the win for the Bulldogs as he scattered two hits with four Ks.
Walker Kennedy went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Queen City in hits.

QC Softball

Queen City’s softball team evened its record at 1-1 after a tough, 7-3, loss to New Boston last week. 
The Lady Lions were up, 7-0, before sophomore swatter Marlee Durmon hit a solo homerun to centerfield in the fifth inning.
The Lady Bulldogs had a small rally going in the seventh after Durmon hit a single, took second on a wild pitch and scored on a single hit by Brooklyn Sykes.
Cori Lang singled next followed by a bunt single by Tiera Johnson to load the bases.
Jayley Stringer hit into a fielder’s choice with the throw to home to save a score, but Jacie Lance took ball four on a 3-2 count to bring in the third run for QC.
The game ended on a double play.
Durmon was 2-for-3 with a HR and an RBI, Sykes hit an RBI single, Lance recorded an RBI and both Johnson and Lang had singles.
Lang scattered seven hits in two and a third innings and Durmon gave up three hits while striking out three in a little over four innings. 
On March 3, the Lady Bulldogs hosted Redwater and took a, 6-1, district loss.
Maci Stringer was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple, Sykes was 2-for-3 with an RBI and both Johnson and Durmon went 1-for-2 in the contest.
