Bivins man dies in fire

The death of a man killed in a travel trailer fire in Bivins just over a week ago was accidental, according to local law enforcement officials and state fire marshals.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) and state fire marshals investigated the fire that killed Charles Bridges, 65, at the 2770 County Road 1780 residence. The address is in a rural area and the fire department wasn’t called about the fire, said CCSO Chief Deputy Roy Barker, leaving the exact time of the blaze uncertain.
The CCSO received a call on Saturday notifying them that the trailer had burned.
“It (the fire) was probably Friday night late,” Barker said. “We can’t say exactly when the fire was. But when we arrived Saturday morning the fire was almost completely out except for the meter poll.”
District 2 Justice of the Peace Gina Bassham pronounced Bridges dead, and the state fire marshal was notified since there had been a fatality. 
The body was sent to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences, Barker said.
“I talked to a doctor from the medical examiner’s office … and she relayed to me that he had died of an accidental death,” Barker said. Smoke inhalation was a factor, he said.
Barker added, “There’s no foul play or anything like that.”
