M.U.M.S. Math and Science wins back-to-back meets

The Morris Upchurch Middle School Math and Science team competed at Ore City Middle School on Feb. 18. The M.U.M.S. team won the first place overall trophy with a total of 3,133 points, second place Spring Hill had 3,051 points total and third place Daingerfield had a total of 2,878 points.
The M.U.M.S brought home 16 medals for placing in the top 5 of an event.
Individual results are as follows: Number Sense – Claire Bates – second place, eighth grade; Seth Alexander – second place, seventh grade; Connor McGee – third place, seventh grade; Aden Norton – fourth place, seventh grade and Clare Wong – second place, sixth grade.
Calculator – Allyson Hamilton – third place, eighth grade; Claire Bates – fourth place, eighth grade; Clare Wong – second place, sixth grade and Chauncett Miles – third place, sixth grade.
General Math – Tallen Boone – second place, eighth grade and Seth Alexander – third place, seventh grade.
Science – Sarah Henry – third place, eighth grade; Colton Scoggins – second place, seventh grade; Annika Philippi – third place, seventh grade; Faith Mahon – third place, sixth grade and Rhiley Livingston – fourth place, 6th grade.
On Feb. 25, the M.U.M.S. Math and Science team competed at Spring Hill Middle School.
The M.U.M.S. team won the first place overall trophy with a total of 3,073 points, second place Spring Hill had 3,048 points total and third place Daingerfield had a total of 3,028 points.
The M.U.M.S team brought home 11 medals for placing in the top 5 of an event, one being first place.
Individual results are as follows: Number Sense – Tallen Boone – third place, eighth grade; Connor McGee – second place, eighth grade; Seth Alexander – third place, eighth grade and Aden Norton – fifth place, eighth grade.
Calculator – Allyson Hamilton – third place, eighth grade; Luke Niedens – fifth place, eighth grade; Chyna Stiger – fifth place, seventh grade; Chauncett Miles – third place, sixth grade and Ebie Dotson – fourth place, sixth grade.
General Math – Tallen Boone – first place, eighth grade.
Science – Colton Scoggins – second place, seventh grade.
Team coaches are Kendra Bates, Celeste Dellinger, Becky Russell and Principal Steve Holmes.
