Prevent
Alzheimer’s

Doctor David Perlmutter, author of “Grain Brain” and “Brain Maker,” has concluded that Alzheimer’s disease is primarily predicated on lifestyle choices -- and, in a nutshell, anything that promotes insulin resistance, like a processed food diet, will ultimately also raise your risk of Alzheimer’s.
By 2050 someone in the U.S. will develop Alzheimer’s disease every 33 seconds, according to the Alzheimer’s Association.
The medical community is divided: some say there is no known cure while others say Alzheimer’s disease is preventable. I prefer to believe that if I may prevent something I am sure going to try!
My wife’s parents passed away due to complications of Alzheimer’s. My mother has exhibited the symptoms for a number of years. Alzheimer’s need not be a disease you dread; instead work daily to ameliorate your healthy lifestyle to avoid the condition.
The following are suggestions gleaned from numerous medical professionals and studies:
-Blood glucose levels 70-85. No more than 95. Insulin intolerance is a leading risk factor.
-Avoid sugar and diet sweeteners. No more than 15 grams of sugar daily.
-Eliminate tobacco, alcohol and soda consumption. Use of these invites Alzheimer’s.
-Avoid processed foods. Abstain from snacks or meals in boxes, cans; microwaveable, prepackaged or premade “foods.”
-Restrict high carbohydrate lifestyle foods such as grains, breads, potatoes, white rice, pastries and pasta.
-Increase good fats such as coconut oil, olive oil, avocado and nut oils. The brain needs good fat.
-Supplement with Ginko Biloba, Turmeric and Rosemary. These are vasodilators, which assist increased blood flow to the brain and are anti-inflammatory in nature.
-Exercise your body -- at least 20 minutes a day physical activity.
-Exercise your brain -- word puzzles, learn a new language, learn a musical instrument.
-Increase your Omega 3 fats; eat more fatty fish (baked and broiled -- NOT fried).
-Increase plant fiber/protein consumption with dried beans, peas, lentils, seeds and raw nuts.
Clip this article and tape it to your refrigerator. Follow these suggestions and you may be able to prevent Alzheimer’s from attacking your brain. Do not let it claim your life.
Please, pray to God for wisdom and direction prior to beginning any new therapy and seek advice from a medical professional you trust. Every ‘body’ is different; how you ‘treat’ yourself is of vital importance.
Write to me with your comments, suggestions and questions. Let’s work together to live strong and healthy this new year as you create a new you.
