The Cass County Commissioner’s Court last week took no action on approving archival funds to be used toward preservation of vital historical handwritten documents in the Cass County Clerk’s Office.
County Judge Becky Wilbanks explained her concerns and asked if there were other companies that could offer the same services.
“We jumped into a past project without having enough information perhaps, so I agree that it would be good to look into this a little deeper,” said Wilbanks.
Precinct 3 Commissioner Paul Cothren said, “I looked over this material and there could be more done over the selections process -- I would just like us to take a real close look that from my position before we do anything.”
County Clerk Jamie O’Rand explained, “The company provided a detailed information packet on exactly how the process works and the outcome of how these documents or records need vast attention to be restored, and my duty as county clerk is to maintain these documents.”
Precinct 2 Commissioner Jon Borseth said, “I have done some research on the company and I have seen no negative reports from previous clients with them online.”
Wilbanks concluded, “I personally would like to wait a little longer before we jump into another project.”
In other business, the court voted to approve a bond for Miranda Johnson as limited deputy tax assessor-collector.
