DPS traffic stop in Cass County leads to drug bust

 From staff reports

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized approximately 123 pounds of cocaine in Cass County on Saturday after a Texas Highway Patrol trooper stopped a vehicle on U.S. 59, according to a DPS press release. The cocaine was reported to be worth more than $7 million.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., the trooper stopped a 2017 Ford Mustang traveling north on U.S. 59, north of Atlanta, for a traffic violation.
Atlanta Police Department and Cass County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) personnel assisted with the stop. A CCSO canine unit was called to the scene and alerted on the vehicle, according to the DPS release. The trooper then discovered several bundles of cocaine in the trunk.
Bricio Alegandro Vasquez, 28, of Brownsville -- the only occupant of the car -- was arrested and charged with felony possession of cocaine. Vasquez was transported and booked into the Cass County Jail.
According to DPS, the drugs were allegedly being transported to Chicago.
