The Friends of the Library is raising funds to install additional security cameras at the Atlanta Public Library
Members will be hosting a bake sale at the library on Monday and Tuesday in an effort to raise approximately $4,500 for 16 digital security cameras that will be paired  with those camera already being utilized.
Friends member Fern Porter said the group realizes it probably won’t realize its goals with just sweet treats, which includes cakes, cookies and other baked goods, but she hopes individuals and businesses will donated extra money.
“Since $4,500 is needed, that will require a lot of cookies unless people are willing to drop some extra money in the donation jar,” Porter said. “Businesses are also encouraged to help raise this money. Donations of baked goods will also be accepted.”
The new cameras will be installed both inside the library and on the outside.
Porter emphasized the important role the library plays in the community even in today’s digital age.
“It’s the best kept secret, though it shouldn’t be,” Porter said.
“We have a lot of things that some in the community may not realize -- a 3-D printer, kids program, classes and even an Overdrive [system] allows people to download digital books to the the devices.  Our library is valuable to our city and all are asked to help support it.”
