County man dies in house fire

A house fire Monday morning claimed the life of a Cass County man.
Atlanta Fire Chief Robin Betts said the body of 65-year-old Donald Lee Williams was located in the ruins of the home on County Road 4668 in the Bivins community.
 Betts said the victim’s brother discovered the fire and called 9-1-1. The chief said the brother reported that Williams may have some kind of ongoing medical issues. Betts said the structure was fully involved when firefighters arrived on the scene after 9 a.m.
While no exact cause of the fire has been determined, Betts said investigators believe it likely started in the living room area where the victim spend most of his time. Betts also said the exact cause of death is still to be determined. The state fire marshal as well as the Cass County Sheriff’s Office are part of the investigation.
Eight trucks from three fire departments responded to the scene.
