U.S. Steel permanently closes pipe mill at Lone Star plant

U.S. Steel announced its plans to permanently the No. 1 electric-weld mill at its Lone Star Tubular in Lone Star, Texas.
The facility, which is located in Morris County, was idled this past March, laying off 70 workers. 
U.S. Steel spokesperson Erin DiPietro said U.S. Steel advised the United Steelworkers Dec. 14, of the company’s proposed intent to permanently close Lone Star Tubular Operations, Electric-Weld Pipe Mill in Lone Star, Texas as well as a Lorain Tubular Operations, Seamless Pipe Mill in Lorain, Ohio.
She said the decision to propose the permanent closure of these two operating lines will not impact the status of any employees who have remained on layoff since the lines were idled.
