Queen City battles Ore City in district action, falls 35-13

By Adam Pettit

The Queen City Bulldogs were on the road last week to face the Ore City Rebels.
QC hoped to take advantage of the extra rest after a bye week. Ore City looked to continue the success it had in a victory against Hooks in the previous week.
The game began with Queen City winning the toss and electing to receive.
After three plays without positive yardage and a false start penalty, Josue Rea punted to the Rebels’ 13-yard line to give them a long field. The great punt paid off as the Rebels were forced to punt in a fourth and long situation. During the drive, Jaeger Jaynes came up with a quarterback sack that caused a big loss.
On the Bulldogs’ next drive, QC would strike first. Queen City started on the Ore City 46 and drove the ball down to the Rebels’ eight yard line.
Rea came on to attempt a 25-yard field goal that easily sailed through the uprights. The Bulldogs led 3-0 with seconds remaining in the first quarter.
The second quarter began with Ore City on offense. On second-and-10 from their own 31-yard line, the Rebels’ quarterback found his receiver for a 69-yard touchdown that put the Rebels on top 7-3.
Queen City started its next drive near midfield but would be forced to turn the ball over on a fumble.
On their next drive, the Rebels ran two plays for positive yardage before the quarterback broke for a 30 yard touchdown. The PAT was good and Ore City extended its lead to 11 points with eight and half minutes remaining in the first half.
The Bulldogs continued to pound the ball with their running backs but were forced to punt the ball back to Ore City. The teams traded possessions until seconds remained in the half.  Rea made his way back to the field, this time for a 43 yard attempt.
Once again, the ball sailed easily through the uprights for Rea’s longest field goal of the season. At halftime, QC trailed 14-6.
The QC defense continued to play well early in the second half. When it looked like the Rebels might gain momentum, the Bulldogs were there to force a punt.
The Rebels defense also played well, eventually breaking the scoring drought with an interception that was returned for a touchdown with around two minutes remaining in the third quarter. The PAT was successful and the Rebels opened up a 21-6 lead.
The fourth quarter began with Rea back to punt near midfield.  Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the kick was blocked and the Rebels returned the ball to the QC one yard line. After two strong defensive plays by the Bulldogs, Ore City scored on a pass down the left side of the field. The PAT was good and the Rebels led 28-6 early in the fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs would find the end zone for a touchdown of their own midway through the fourth quarter.  William Harris, Jesse Parker, Dwight Glover and Tyler Adcock took QC down the field on consecutive runs. Adcock eventually scored on a one yard quarterback sneak.
QC cut the lead to 15 with 4:47 remaining in the game.
The Rebels ended up with one more touchdown two minutes later that brought the final score to Queen City 13 and Ore City 35.
The Bulldogs are back in action this Friday night at home against Daingerfield.  Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
The JV topped Ore City 14-12 behind Trevor Knod’s rushing touchdown, and Dylan Scott’s rushing touchdown with an added 2-point conversion run.
