AMS football teams sweep Pittsburg
Atlanta’s eighth grade A team hammered Pittsburg, 36-16, last week to tally a mark in the W column in the opening of district play. Alijuah Drayton started the scoring with a 12-yard reception from Jackson Warren.
The Rabbs had a big night running the football as well, which gave them a 20-16 lead at the half. The offensive line consisting of Justin Mitchell, Derek Martin, Jagger Dyer, Tate Mitchell, Justin Lance and TE Trey Adams did a nice job opening up some running lanes.
After a big kick return from Pittsburg, the Rabbs controlled the rest of the second half. Daimion Collins scored a 6-yard touchdown on the ground. Tyler Fedrick also had a big night, rushing for two 30-yard touchdown runs. Tyrell King added an 18-yard scoring run. Collin Morris and Keyshawn Easter both caught two-point conversions from Collins. Frederick also ran in a two-point conversion.
Other offensive standouts were Easter, who had a nice 50-yard reception, and Kentrell Andrews, who tallied up lots of yardage on the ground. The defense had a great game, keeping Pittsburg on their side of the field for most of the game. Defensive standouts were Collin Morris, Tim Demery, Warren, and Tyrell King.
In the seventh grade A game, the Rabbs overcame a halftime deficit to defeat the Pirates. Pittsburg led after the first quarter, 8-0. The Rabbs then put together an impressive drive behind the offensive line of Edward Mitchell, Brennan Gaston, Cruz Alonso, Clay Fant, and Ty Blizzard with nice runs from Keith Kinney and Daniel Hernandez.
Hernandez scored from five yards out to make it 8-6 at the half. The Rabbs controlled the ball in the third quarter, and Cooper McClure punched it in from eight yards out to give the Rabbs the lead for good. Hernandez added the two-point conversion.
Early in the fourth, the Rabbits drove into the red zone again, and McClure connected with Hernandez on a 20-yard touchdown pass. McClure ran in the two-point conversion to make it 22-8.
Defensive standouts for the Rabbs, who have only allowed two touchdowns on the season, were McClure, who had an interception and Zachary Mitchell who recovered a fumble. Other defensive standouts were Clay Fant, Dekorian Parker, Kale Carpenter, and Jaymarian Stiger.
The seventh grade B team opened play for the night with a win. Justin Pierce scored three times for the Rabbs on runs of 35, 26, and 40 yards. Tristan Carathers added two 40-yard touchdown runs.
Jakarrian Wafer came up with a nice reception of 30 yards from Pierce. Wafer also had an interception. Defensive standouts were Tyler Cormier, Caleb King and Avery Whitlow.
The eighth grade B game had the Rabbs winning as well. Kentrell Luckey, Cody Maxie, Jordan Stiger, and Michael Gamble all scored for the Rabbs. Defensive standouts were Jeremiah Jefferson, Nick Gonzales and Fransisco Sanchez, who caught an interception.
