“Let’s run it up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes it.”
David Everett, with Cass County Equipment, said his company was looking for a way to honor their country and its veterans when the idea for installing a new flagpole was hatched.
“We are proud to be patriotic Americans and we wanted to show our love for our country and honor our veterans,” Everett said.
Tim Roberts, a retired Texarkana firefighter who works the parts and service desk, took charge of the project and getting the 25-foot pole. “This is how we honor America,” he said.
On July 14 the company was ready to put “Old Glory” in her proper place and they wanted to do it right. Everett said that he learned that one of his customers, Van Hall, was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army and he thought it was appropriate that a member of the armed forces be the first person to raise the colors.
Hall, who lives “between Linden and Hughes Springs,” said that he was honored to be asked to raise the flag.
