LINDEN-- The Linden Police Department will hold a grand opening celebration for their new police station on July 7 at 1 p.m. The new station is located at the corner of North Blaylock and East Vance Street (the former Good Shepherd Medical Center).
In April the city council, by unanimous consent, approved the purchase a building from the Good Shepherd Health System that will become the new station.
City Administrator Bob Swisher said that new facility would not only provide more than twice the square footage the department previously had, but it provide more secure storage, a zone a/c system that would be more efficient to run and space for in-house training.
Swisher said that main problems with the old station included storage space, the lack of a dedicated interview room, that it did not meet fire code specifications (only one door in and out of the building) and some mold exposure.
He noted that part of the phone system will include an intercom link between city hall and the station.
