This year the Atlanta Public Library’s Summer Reading Program will take on a more “holistic” approach which will encourage not only strengthening the mind through reading but the body as well.
Each of the crafts and story times will focus on an aspect of health, wellness or fitness.
On June 13, the library will kick off the program with “The Big Event” at 10:30 a.m. This program specifically targets students pre-K through sixth grade. Nora Pratt will be on hand to present a program on wellness.
Each weekday will feature classes and story time for readers in pre-k through adult. Pre-k through sixth-grade will meet every Monday at 10:30 a.m. An adult class will meet Tuesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. The adult class will feature the art of journaling.
There is a double shot of classes on Wednesday. Kindergarten through third grade will meet at noon. A crafts class will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. On Thursdays students in fourth through sixth grades will get together from 1 to 2 p.m.
Friday is middle school and high school day, with grades seven through nine from 3-4 p.m. followed by grades 10 through 12 from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. These students will have lessons in creative writing.
Registration for “Fly High With Books” is going on now. Forms are available at the library.
The program is presented by Atlanta Area Rotary Club, Atlanta Public Library, Snagglebloom.com, Chicken Express, McDonalds’ and Sonic.
