Atlanta police are investigating a string of attempted burglaries/ criminal mischief that occurred sometime between the evening hours of May 26 and early morning hours of May 27.
During that time period, a person or persons unknown broke windows at Atlanta Guns & Ammo and at Hibbits Sporting Goods.
When Brian Kendrick, owner of Atlanta Guns and Ammo, arrived at the shop around 9 a.m. he found the front door glass smashed and a hole in a side window. He said that there was no indication that anyone was able to get into the building, having likely been stopped by the iron burglar bars.
A concrete block, which had been broken off a parking lot divider, was found at the scene. Police also found a sledge hammer in a nearby dumpster. They would not say, however, if it was linked to the attack.
At Hibbits, a side window was also found smashed. Hibbits employees would not say if entry was made into the store, saying that they could not comment on an ongoing investigation.
Atlanta Police Chief Jay Womack said they it was too early in the investigation to speculate on whether the two attacks were related. He said that since no entry was made into the gun shop it was being treated as a criminal mischief case.
A burglary was also reported during the same time period on Boggie Street.
